In the framework of International Disability Day, Soluciones de Movilidad Especiales SL, in collaboration with AsoPMR (Association for People with Reduced Mobility), continues to drive innovative technological solutions to improve the mobility of people with disabilities. A standout example is the pilot program in Malgrat de Mar alongside ATM, which seeks to improve access to public transport for people with reduced mobility (PRM) by implementing a Park&Ride solution with advanced technology, set to launch in January.
An Innovative Pilot for Public Transport Access
The pilot in Malgrat de Mar is a pioneering initiative that introduces the first European development for identifying users with a European parking card, allowing access to advanced services within sustainable and inclusive mobility. This includes the reservation of PRM spaces with smart barriers, promoting the use of mixed public and private transport to access the city. Users with reduced mobility will be able to visualize the occupancy status of spaces in real time and make reservations through the Park4Dis platform.
This project is part of the paradigm shift from Smart Cities to Wise Human Cities, where the user is at the center of the project. The innovation has been presented to high-level entities such as the ONCE Foundation, the European Disability Forum, the ESSL Foundation, EASPD, and various European city councils, who have received the proposal with great interest.
Benefits for Citizens and the City Council
With the Park&Ride pilot in Malgrat de Mar, we aim to improve the autonomy of people with reduced mobility, facilitate their access to public transport, and, in turn, optimize the management of parking spaces. The solution not only offers real-time information on parking availability but also improves urban accessibility, promotes inclusion, and contributes to more sustainable mobility.
The Malgrat de Mar City Council will benefit from advanced asset management tools and usage statistics, in addition to an automatic alert system for incidents, which will contribute to efficiency in the administration of PRM spaces.
